The Hofman armchair, 1911

Vlastislav Hofman designed this armchair as part of an interior for the sculptor Josef Maratka. Big brother to the chair, its austere appearance is softened by the detail of the slanted planes of the legs and the triangular surfaces of the veneer covering the whole piece. A Cubist masterpiece, several were recently bought from Modernista for the Marriage registry in the newly refurbished Prague Old Town Hall.
