The Cubist Collection

Czech Cubism was born around 1910 in Prague where a group of young artists began to apply the Cubist principles of Braque and Picasso to architecture and the applied arts, as well as to paintings and sculpture. Their distinctive, angular designs can be found in everything from cups and saucers, desks and chairs to villas and office buildings. Nowhere else in the world was Cubism applied so completely.

Modernista's Cubist Collection contains reissues of works designed by Pavel Janak, Josef Gocar and Vlastislav Hofman between 1910 and 1920. They are handmade from the same materials as the originals held by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The Cubist-style packaging for the smaller items is of natural carton. Each individually numbered piece is accompanied by a booklet with information about it and its author.
